Ever come across a hilarious video in your Twitter DMs that you just have to save? While Twitter itself doesn’t offer a built-in download option for videos in direct messages, there are several workarounds you can use depending on your device.
Using a Browser Extension:
This method works best for desktop users (Windows, Mac) and requires installing a browser extension. Here’s how:
- Choose your extension: Popular options include “Video Downloader PLUS” and “Universal Video Downloader.” Search for them in your browser’s extension store and install the one you prefer.
- Navigate to your DMs: Open Twitter in your browser and go to your direct messages.
- Play the video: Click on the video you want to save to play it.
- Access the extension: Look for the extension’s icon in your browser’s toolbar (usually near the URL bar). Click on it.
- Download the video: The extension will display a list of available video resolutions. Choose your preferred quality and click “Download” or “Start.”
Using VLC Media Player (Desktop Only):
This method is a bit more technical but can be useful if you don’t want to install an extension.
- Open VLC Media Player: Make sure you have VLC installed on your computer.
- Copy the video URL: Open the DM containing the video and right-click on the video. Select “Copy video address” or a similar option depending on your browser.
- Open “Convert/Save” in VLC: Go to the “Media” menu in VLC and select “Convert/Save.”
- Paste the URL and choose format: In the “Open Media” window, click the “Network” tab. Paste the copied URL into the “Please enter a network URL” field and click “Convert/Save.” Under “Profile,” select “MP4” or your preferred format.
- Choose destination and start conversion: Click “Browse” to choose where you want to save the downloaded video. Finally, click “Start” to begin the conversion process.
Third-Party Downloaders (Desktop):
- Several online tools like Twitter保存 etc, and browser extensions allow you to download videos from Twitter DMs.
- Copy the URL of the tweet containing the video.
- Visit a reliable online Twitter video downloader, paste the URL, and follow the instructions to save the video.
Using Screen Recording (Mobile Only):
Since there’s no direct download option within the Twitter mobile app, you can resort to screen recording the video.
- Open your screen recorder: Most Android and iPhone models come with a built-in screen recording function. Locate and activate it through your phone’s settings or control center.
- Start recording: Open the DM with the video and play it. Once it starts playing, initiate screen recording on your phone.
- Stop recording: Once the video playback is complete, stop the screen recording. The captured video will be saved in your phone’s gallery.
Important Note:
It’s important to remember that downloading content from social media platforms may have restrictions based on their terms of service. Always ensure you have permission from the original content creator before saving and sharing any videos from Twitter DMs.
